Day 1: San José - San Gerardo de Dota 

Our day starts early in the morning with a transfer to   "The area of Saints", to the little town of San Gerardo de Dota, where the Savegre Lodge is located. Her you can enjoy all the comforts of a mountain lodge, exquisite and healthy food, where apple juice served at the restaurant comes from the garden of the hotel, a place with an extensive route network hiking through the Cloud forest reserve, home of the magnificent Quetzal. The afternoon is free to discover the trails of the lodge, visit the village of San Gerardo or walk with a guide the trail to a hidden waterfall. In the evening you will enjoy a delicious dinner in the restaurant of hotel, at the end of the day you may take an aperitif in the Bar "Los Robles" where you can exchange the experiences of the day with other travelers.

Day 2: Searching the Quetzal

Today our day starts early in the morning before breakfast, the ideal time to go with your guide in search of the huge variety of birds that inhabit the cloud forest, especially the famous Quetzal. The birdsong promises a memorable day in the cloud forest. The bright green and blue Quetzal, especially the male has a tail up to a meter long, feathery vibrant colors that attract all the attention in the forest. Better known as the bird of the Gods, the Quetzal inhabits this cloud forest, for its rich ecosystem, where wild aguacatillo grows abundantly and is his main source of food. There are over 200 species of birds, waiting to be discovered! During breakfast and at all times have the camera ready to capture the bright hummingbirds buzzing around the flowers just outside the restaurant. The rest of the day is free to book optional activities that the lodge offers. 

This area is visited by photographers and ornithologists from around the world, as San Gerardo de Dota is the only place in Costa Rica, which is mentioned in the famous bird book "50 best places for bird watching which must be visited before die". And if you still have enough energy after dinner, do not let go the opportunity to participate in a night walk, where you can see different kinds of owls and other species that inhabit this amazing ecosystem.

Day 3: Birdwatching Tour 

Today after breakfast you will explore with your local guide the wildlife around the Cerro de la Muerte and "Los Quetzales" National Park that was founded in 2006 to promote the protection of species of the forest and promote the visit of nature lovers and bird watchers. In a territory of 4,000 hectares you can find up to 14 different ecosystems. Upon arrival to the National Park, you will search for endemic species, while your guide provides interesting details about this wonderful and unique place where you can delight yourself with spectacular views of the cloud forest. After this impressive hike you will have the rest of the day off to relax at the spa, to rest in your room or take an optional tour. At nightfall, a delicious dinner will be served.

Day 4: Return to San José or continue to your next destination 

This morning after breakfast we will start our trip back to San Jose or you can continue to the next destination on your itinerary.
